How to recover deleted web pages using wayback machine

The Internet is an amazing gift to all people, Billions of websites are in it to provide information in digital format. The thing which, makes people sad is when web pages are returning 404 error (i.e. removed pages or broken links) which they visited earlier. Most of us might come across this error. If you are student or researcher then the case is worst you might badly need that information in that lost page for your project or work. Now there are hassle free ways to recover deleted web pages from the web

How to recover deleted web pages

There are two ways to view lost pages. I also wanna make sure that you can’t download any files from the server. You can only view the content in that page

1. Search engine (Cached web pages)

If you are looking for a page which is removed recently then search engine will be a good solution. All three major search engines Google, Bing and Yahoo holds the cached copy of the web page which has been deleted recently. Here what you have to do to get the page back

1. Visit Google or any other search enginePaste the removed page link and search

2. Paste the removed page link and search. In the result, you can find the link in green below with a blue heading of the page. You can find down arrow with green link. Click on the arrow you’ll see the ‘cached’ option

3. In the result, you can find the link in green below with a blue heading of the page. You can find down arrow with green link. Click on the arrow you’ll see the ‘cached’ option

4. Click on the cached option. It will redirect you to the cached copy of the web page from which you can recover the information which you need

5. If you find any trouble in viewing the page, click on the text only version to see only text content from the page

You can also use this feature for comparing how the content is updated or changed when the web page is not removed

2. Archive (websites archive)

So you can recover web pages which are removed recently with the help of Search engine caches. What about pages which were removed several weeks or months or years ago? So we definitely need an alternate solution. Here is an internet archive website to save the day. Archive website is an archive wayback machine which contains more than 435 billion of archived web sites and web pages. You can view, how the page looked like in all over the past. Moreover, it is the perfect solution for researchers who are looking for the page information which was removed several years ago Here is a page which I visited in last year July month but it was deleted a couple of months ago. Now I’m going to view that page with the help of way back machine

1. Visit Archive website

2. Paste the URL in the browse history box and search (i.e. browse history)

3.Now select the year, month and date which you accessed earlier or choose any approximate date in the month (I selected July 4, 2014. I remember that the page was accessible whole month)Now click on the date and you’ll able to see the content on the deleted page

4. Now click on the date and you’ll able to see the content on the deleted page

So this is the perfect way to view the lost web pages 3. Save web pages to offline This is not a recovery method. It is more like a precaution. If you know that a web page would be deleted or cannot accessed during peak time. It is better to save the web page to offline so that you can read the content whenever you want. Save pages with chrome browser

Hope it is helpful. If you know any other way to recover deleted web pages or any other internet archive websites please let me in the comments below
